The fourth Grade 8 SMUS Greece Trip flew by! The 12 days with the students were packed to the fullest and words cannot express the incredible time we have had. The Grade 8s have exceeded expectations on all accounts whether they were trekking through Zues' birth place; River Neda, exploring ancient ruins and running in the first olympic stadium in Olympia, cruising around Pylos Bay, (where Greek independence was born), participating in the NOKY Triathlon, scaling the top war torn ancient walls of Naverino castle, playing in the waves of the Ionian sea, Dancing and playing ice-breaker games with the Greek community, and travelling back in time to Ancient Athens to explore the Acropolis, and learn about where democracy was born.
Overall, this has been another awesome adventure lasting twelve days, from beginning to end. The group size was a bit intimidating at first, (we had about ten more students than we typically do), but we were all impressed with everyone on the trip.
There are so many people to thank for making this trip possible.
In Kyparissia, our local people 'on the ground' who ; and to the Kyparissia community which welcomed us with open arms, including the staff of our hotel who did everything possible to make our stay memorable.
The chaperone team, consisting of myself, Mr. Doland, Mr. DeMerchant, Ms.Cade, Mrs. Mollenhauer and Marc Vincent. They all made this trip run seamlessly and I could not imagine this trip without them! You can probably tell from the blog just how full each day is, and they all were fully involved in every aspect of the trip, from start to finish. You will also have noticed the hundreds of photos linked to this blog, the majority of which were taken by Marc Vincent, our ' SMUS Greece Trip Official Photographer'!!!
The Woodgate family are instrumental in the planning before we arrive and who are present during many of our excursions and activities: Yannis, the coach of the NOKY triathlon club, our resident expert on the region, and so helpful with activities such as the triathlon, the River Neda/waterfall activity, transporter of bikes, and host of the dinner and party. Patrick Woodgate also accompanied us on excursions and who helped with many logistics ahead of our arrival, and Heidi Woodgate looked after little miss Kaya on many of our excursion days.
Cheers to another successful trip with an amazing group of students. Already looking forward to next year! Check out the photo albums in the tabs above for further insight into the trip.
